New Home, and New Executive Authority in the PBA

Howdy folks. For a variety of reasons, the PBA needed to move off of my hosting account. So I went ahead and bought y'all two years worth of hosting, and a new domain. Like our last switch, any existing links here will automatically redirect to here.

There's going to be a brief traffic dip, but that should reverse quickly by the first week of January.

Arancaytar is in Charge from Hereon.
The time and actual work he's put into this place makes him the clear choice.

If he can't take on the responsibility, than its up to him to find someone who can.

He should have root access to everything now, including the blogroll (I have a big warning for anyone who wants to join that blogroll later. This jist is that the blogroll will cause devastating damage to your domain's future).

My only requirement for him is that he democratizes this place as much as possible without putting the infrastructure at risk. The more people with control, the more responsive we can be, and the more we can evolve. Easier said than done.

My involvement will be limited to offering occassional technical and strategic knowledge, and financially supporting all of our current costs, and future costs (I'm game to donate additional resources money where appropriate).

There's been really no excuse for my neglect of this place over the past few months. At the moment, I'm spending all my brainpower, at a startup, and am barely able to even keep up with mail from them. This Christmas has been my first chance to have a few days free. I apologize that I wasn't able to get all this sooner.

*** Some Opportunities ***
We have a lot of space and bandwidth here... more than we could ever possibly use. Literally, the PBA is only using about 10 gigs of our total 55 terabytes of available bandwidth.

We have room to host 53 additional domains. The more people who have ownership of this place, the better, imho. I'd love y'all to share your ideas on how we might be able to use of this space. Some ideas include offering free hosting for pba bloggers, or building splinter projects. It makes no difference to me so long as I am not put at any legal risk.

Our only limit here is the CPU strain we put on the server. If we ever grow out of this setup, I'll donate a Virtual private server to keep up with growth -- but for now, this should suffice.

I'll have about 9 more hours I can offer to getting some things back in order over the holidays.

Anyways, Merry Christmas.

Ow!

When you sent me that email saying you'd moved hosts and given me access, I thought this would be a joint thing and you would still do much of the administration yourself... I didn't read this post until now, so I had no idea that you're literally putting me in the "hot seat". :-P

Well, as I told you in the email, I'll be glad to take over, but real life is leaving me little time until next weekend. After that, I'll look at what needs to be done to get this thing rolling again. :)

cool

sounds real positive.
